Username & Password Errors
Authorization Failed
Authentication Failed
The server has rejected your login
These errors are all caused by an incorrect username or password when you try to check your email.
Your email username should usually be the beginning of your email address - that is, everything before the at (@) sign. A Cute Internet usernames and passwords are Case Sensitive. Any time you enter a username, it should be in lower case letters. Passwords must be entered in the same case they were created; this is important if you used UPPER CASE letters when creating or changing your password.
If your email program prompts you to re-enter the information, be sure to retype both the username and the password.
To check your username and reset your password:
Outlook Express 4, 5, & 6 (Windows): Click the Tools menu and choose Accounts. Click the Mail tab, highlight your A Cute Internet mail account and click the Properties button. Click the Servers tab. Re-enter both your username and password in the appropriate fields and click OK. Close the accounts window and try to retreive your email again.
Outlook Express 5 (Macintosh): Click the Tools menu and choose Accounts. Double click your A Cute Internet mail account. Re-enter both your username and password in the appropriate fields and click OK. Close the accounts window and try to retreive your email again.
Outlook Express 4.5 (Macintosh): Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Email category on the left. Re-enter both your username and password into the Account ID and password fields. Click OK and try to retreive your email again.
Netscape 7: Open Netscape and go to the Mail & Newsgroups window (Click the Window menu and choose Mail & Newsgroups). Click the Edit menu and choose Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings. Click the Server Settings below your A Cute Internet mail account. Re-enter your username into the User Name field. Click OK and try to retreive your email again.
Netscape 4.5 to 4.7: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Mail Servers category under Mail & Newsgroups. You may need to click the plus (+) next to Mail & Newsgroups first. Click the server name once to highlight it, then click the Edit button. Re-enter your username and click OK. Click OK again and try to retreive your email again.
OS X Mail: Click the Mail menu and choose Preferences. Highlight your A Cute Internet mail account and click the Edit button. Re-enter your username and password into the appropriate fields. Click OK and try to retreive your email again.
If the problem continues, try logging on to Webmail to test your username and password, but use your A Cute Internet email address rather than the username in the username field. If you are able to log on to Webmail but cannot authenticate using your email program, the problem is with the program.
If retyping your username and password does not work and your email settings in the program are correct, you may need to remove and re-create the account in your email program. Please note that removing an account will delete the messages that are in that account, so back up all your messages to a folder on the hard drive before proceding.
